It's SPRING TIME again for this beautiful tree on Padang Merdeka, Kuching. =) (or should i say autumn??)

I think this is like the only tree that produces cotton in Kuching. Not exactly sure what's the tree called, but I'm guessing it's called a Cotton Tree (Pokok Kapas, according to my sister's teacher) lol~

Anyway, it's the time of the year again, where the tree gets all white and fluffy and the cotton flies all around carrying seeds. It's such a pretty scene. Sadly, my camera's never with me and I had to take pictures with my 2MP phone camera. Boo-hoo..~

The white fluffy cotton scattered all over the field.

Yesterday, we decided to stop by the 'padang' to take a closer look at the cotton. (NINETEEN years living in Kuching and I've never actually seen the thing close up. =S )

There were quite a lot of people there collecting the cotton. I guess they're gonna use it to make cushions or something.

They even reserved the tree especially for VIPs, women, and children so the mummies (not sure what's the plural for 'mummy' XD) can bring their kids along to collect the cotton! Besides, it's the school holidays now. What other better ways to spend your school holidays other than collecting cotton with your beloved mummies?? =P

However, it was tiring collecting the cotton and getting rid of the seeds under the hot sun. But we did manage to collect as much as the size of a tennis ball! XD

(I wonder how long would it take to collect enough to make a small pillow) hrmmmmm.........~

Anyway, I'm sure I'll be back at the field to take nicer pictures and get more cotton! hee hee~

When you're dead bored in Kuching, at 10pm, on a Saturday night~

Just got back from a very exhausting but FUN and CRAZY outing! (well, not exactly an outing, just a 'girls' - night - out' kinda thing) =)

First, we went for dinner at Heritage Cafe on Nanas Road.

(Sorry, no pics..was busy catching up with each other and enjoying my lamb chop XD)

After dinner, as usual, we were all indecisive of where to go next..

Standing in the middle of the carpark.... (not actual conversation - just a 'summary' of the actual 10 minutes conversation)

Me: So...where are we going now?

Everyone else: Dunno..where to go ar??

Me: Think of some place la!

Someone: You drive we follow la. Where you stop we stop.

Me: -.-" Quick la! Where to go??

Everyone else: Aduh....~

Liyana: Go Travillion?? =D

Everyone else: Ok!

Me: So we meet at Travillion carpark then decide where to go la.

Off we went to Travillion.. (supposedly the liveliest place at night) but no....it was kinda dead tonight.

Liyana: So how? So quiet la here!

Me: Yea..!! So where to go??

Sat in our cars discussing where to go through the window.

......... "Bing's!?" "Airport?" "SoHo?" "Mamak?" "Coffee Bean?" "McD?" "Waterfront?" "Tun Jugah?" "Sarawak Plaza?" "Waterfront?" ..........

After about 15 minutes, we unanimously agreed to go Waterfront. (Because Liyana wanted to cam-whore) haha!

Well, we arrived at Waterfront at about 9:40pm - according to my camera.

The very first thing we saw, was of course Kuching's Giant 'Orange Juicer', which is still under construction.

It's actually quite a good looking building, except that the location is just so wrong. (at least in my opinion)

I mean, why build such a huge and er....modern?-looking building in an area surrounded by 'kampung' houses?? It kinda ruins the peacefulness and the serenity of Waterfront. The other side of the river used to look very traditional and historical, with all the Kampung Melayu and the Fort Magherita. Now, everything else is 'drowned' by this 'orange juicer'. -.-"

Back to our 'night out' earlier on..

After we were all done snapping pics of the building, Liyana decided to put her camera on 'fireworks' mode and started snapping her camera and shaking it, creating cool effects.

The rest of us thought it was cool so we copied her!

And another new way to use your camera is by setting it on timer, and start spinning it!

and Yes, we got quite a lot of people looking at us, and there was this freaky guy that came and sat next to us asking us what were we doing... yeesh..!~

After tonight, I swear I'll never go back to Waterfront ever again.. =P

Fashion Week @ The Spring

I think it was last week when The Spring had the Fashion Week thing going on. However, I only attended on the day UNIMAS had their Batik Show and Lim Kok Wing, their Fashion Show.

Initially, I wanted to blog about the fashion show and all, but there didn't seem much to be blogged about. Besides, I thought the 'clothes' that they displayed yesterday weren't really nice. The Lim Kok Wing's were quite simple and..er.. 'un-unique'? (just the usual black coloured clothes with a little more accesories and stuff) As for the UNIMAS Batik Show, some of the batik designs were quite pretty, but the way they wore it was nothing special. I guess it's because there aren't many ways to tie batik around your body. XD

Anyway, instead of blogging about the event, I decided to share some of the pictures I took! =D

This was sort of my first time taking pictures of moving people, and I was just using a normal compact digicam. Not whatsoever DSLR camera. (although I wish I have one)

Due to my lack of skills, most of the pictures came out blur. But, there were also some pictures that I thought were quite nice. hehe..~

By the way, I was standing above the stage area, AGAIN!~ That's why the angles are not really good, plus I didn't get to move around much because the whole area overlooking the stage was packed, resulting in 'one-angled' shots. LOL~ (i wonder if that term exists.. XD)

Marie Digby Live in Kuala Lumpur!

This is my forth attempt to post this blog! *frustrated* aaahhhh!!!!

Anyway,

14^th May 2008.

“GAP presents Marie Digby live in Kuala Lumpur!” *crowd screams*

But of course, before we went for the event, we had dinner! We found this “hidden” restaurant at a corner in One Utama that we seldom go to – TCK 1920 Hakkakaya. The place looks like a ‘kopitiam’ restaurant - with the marble table top and stuff… lol~

Anyway, we didn’t know exactly what to order, so the easiest solution was to order the ‘Today’s Special’, which was the Roasted & Marinated half chicken. It was a combo meal and it was HUGE! (we didn’t know that when we ordered -.-“) and I could barely finish my dish. It comes with mashed potato, veggie and pasta aglio olio OR Mexican rice, with a glass of iced lemon tea. (The name of the pasta might sound nice and yummy, but honestly, it tastes like plain Kolo mee without the ‘char siew’ oil. XD )

And with every order above RM50, you’ll get a complimentary Hakkakaya Toast! We got one and it was quite nice. The bread was really toasted (it was crispy unlike some places that calls untoasted cold bread ‘toast’) and the butter was just nice, as in not too buttery or too much that it makes you feel like puking after eating one piece. =P

After dinner, which was about 7pm, we went to find the GAP store. When we got there, there was this French expo thingy going on. We were all thinking, “maybe it’s still too early…” So we decided to go do some shopping. Luckily we went in the right direction and noticed that the event was further up front! At that time, the stage area was already quite packed.

But, we were smart enough not to squeeze with the crowd. Haha! We went upstairs and stood behind the Estee Lauder booth. (at least I think it was Estee Lauder..heh..) The view of the stage wasn’t GREAT, but at least we had plenty of space to move around, and a really nice view of the crowd. Lol~

The event started off with some questionnaire thingy, with prizes such as Marie Digby’s album and GAP caps. Then there was the singing competition for the top 3 finalist of Mix.fm’s contest. (The prize was a Yamaha acoustic guitar, autographed by Marie Digby!!) Kimberly, a 12 year old girl, won the competition. (Damn, she was GOOD! She has this sort of sweet and innocent voice.)

All of a sudden, this ‘lelaki sesat’ just appeared on stage.

Well, he’s actually one of the performers in this group named Acoustic 39. They won 2^nd place in some kind of Youtube contest and they sang Marie Digby’s Say It Again A capella style (think that’s what the style is called XD). Not bad..actually it was quite nice. Especially with the beat box effect.

Finally, Marie Digby!!!! Woo hoo!!~

Her performance was great that night! And I like her dress – those gray pinafore…looks cute on her. =P

She sang quite a number of songs. Didn’t get all the names but among them were ‘Stupid For You’, a song she wrote for GAP, her famous ‘Say It Again’, and of course ‘Umbrella-ella-ella-eh-eh-eh’. Haha..

When she sang ‘Umbrella’, she challenged the crowd to be louder than her fans in Singapore. I thought us being Malaysians, with the ‘Malaysia Boleh!’ spirit and all, would do a great job…but nah…the crowd was quite soft. So disappointing! There were like thousands of people but ‘Umbrella’ sounded so ‘tidak bersemangat’. Gosh!~

And that was it! After her last song (Umbrella) the showcase ended and she went off for the autograph session. Sadly I didn’t have a copy of her album. =( No album = no autograph..boo-hoo!!~

Anyway, just watching her perform live was good enough. Heehee..~

Plus i managed to snap a paparazzi-like pic of her..lol~

First entry and i screwed up~

I haven't been blogging for like.....ages! Never really gotten the habit to blog anyway. So now I'm starting fresh again and this first entry would be about me screwing up my first 'final presentation' for my very first studio class. sigh...~

This is how it all began....

Wait..before i start i'll juz briefly explain wud my presentation/project is all about.. =)

We had this project to design "a space within a tree". This "space" has to be especially designed for a character (environmentalist/writer/sportsperson/musician/dancer) and it has to be located at a given site (swamp/forest/water edge/open space). My site was the swamp and my character was this complicated enviromentalist, Bjorn Lomborg. Complicated because he calls himself an environmentalist but he solves environmental issues in different ways. From what i understand, there was something where he said we should all focus on world poverty instead of global warming. We should just all live our lives normally, earn lots of money and when we all have enough money, we'll just use that money to solve global warming! Simple, huh?

Back to my presentation.

Presentation was this morning. Everyone was like preparing with cue cards, lil pieces of paper, talking to themselves in lil dark corners..rehearsing the whole presentation....and.... i did nothing. The whole time, before the crits and the lecturers came, i just sat there, looking at how nervous everybody else were. (But honestly, i really wanted to prepare something as well but i just din noe what!)

Anyway, i was in Group 7, SUPPOSED to be third presenter (out of 12) so i was kinda happy. Having the advantage to be in the middle and all..., not first not last..bla bla bla..

But our crit, Mr. Fabian, wanted to go randomly. So there...i ended up being LAST! By the time it was my turn (that's like 2hrs+ later), my feet hurt like hell and i was kinda tired. My presentation kinda sucked cuz i din really noe what to say (i knew exactly what to say in the beginning. But i guess it's just different when you're facing THEM), i din really plan the flow of the whole thing as well. So i was kinda jumping from one point to another. (-.-") Plus, my model was VERY SIMPLE compared to the others.. (i din take any pics cuz i was too frustrated bout me ending up to be the last presenter) so i had to really crap to make my design work. But somehow, my brain juz got jammed. I cant think of any explanations when Fabian asked questions. Like "How does your model relate to your character?" "What sort of architectural language did you use in your design?". and all i did was stood there trying to come up with something that makes sense. Besides, i din really get the second question. I

guess that was the BIG QUESTION that got me screwed.

And another thing that got me into trouble was my choice of character. Bjorn Lomborg, isn't really environmental-friendly. (he has a different way of solving environmental issues) So yeah..that's another point, cuz my whole concept was blending in with nature and my whole house looks very "environmental-friendly" and stuff. According to Fabian, my design contradicts my character's personality. Come to think of it, i think he's quite right about that. =S

So there goes my first studio presentation. But overall, i think it wasn't as bad as described by everyone else. The crits were quite friendly and polite. Din really see any harsh ones and i guess no one cried in our session. =)
